International White Cane Safety Day
15th October 2011

On the day of 15th October 2011 on Saturday at 11:00 A.M International White Cane Safety Day was celebrated at Govt. Institute for the Blind (Male) Peshawar under the supervision of Pakistan Association of the Blind Provincial Branch Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Hon: Minister for Health Mr. Syed Zahir Ali Shah was the Chief Guest at the event. The event was held under the Chairmanship of Mr. Atta-ur-Rehman (Adv) President of Alkhidman Foundation Peshawar. Social Welfare Officers, representatives of Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and a large number of representatives both from Electronic and Print Media attended the ceremony. More than250 male and female members of the Association were present at the occasion.

The event was started with the recitation of Holy Quran and Naat was presented by two students of Govt: Institute for the Blind (Girls) Peshawar. After that welcome address was presented on behalf of the General Secretary of Pakistan Association of the Blind Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Branch. National Song was presented by students of Blind school. Importance of White Cane Safety Day and objective of the Association was elaborated by the President PAB Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Branch. During his detailed address, the Chief Guest responded the welcome address by granting his approval for construction of Talking Book Computerized Library within the premises of the building of PAB KP Branch. He promised to appoint four Visually Impaired Persons as Telephone/Computer Operators in Hospitals of Peshawar against 2% quota. He also showed his willingness to arrange a meeting of the delegation of PAB with the President of Islamic Republic of Pakistan Mr. Asif Ali Zardari.

At the end, Chairman of the event Mr. Atta-ur-Rehman (Adv) presented his Presidential Address. Gracing the occasion of International White Cane Safety Day, White Canes and Talking Watches were distributed in visually impaired persons. The event was ended with refreshment to all the participants.
